UBC Millwrights Meet the Call for Our Oil & Gas Needs

The surge of oil and gas production along America’s Gulf Coast created a skilled labor shortage, including the millwrights needed to install and maintain mechanical operations. The United Brotherhood of Carpenters anticipated this shortage and began prepping to alleviate it years ago. As a result, thousands of highly skilled, credentialed, professional UBC millwrights are ready to deploy. Each learned from the same standardized training curriculum, which means that new hires are just as skilled as experienced local millwrights.

The Right Training to Get the Job Done

Our intensive training creates leaders who promote a productive and safe worksite with their work ethic and positive attitude. UBC millwrights are trained, tested, and credentialed for work in oil refineries, chemical plants, gas pipelines, natural gas processing units and more.

They have honed their technical skills for exploration, development, drilling, production, and decommissioning projects — and are prepared to expertly install, construct, repair and maintain multimillion-dollar production and refinery equipment, such as stationary and industrial engines, compressors, and pumps.

Our reputation for excellence includes rigging and signaling, welding, alignment, and fabrications.

Attracting and Retaining Manpower

This is now a primary business objective for oil and gas production companies. By working with UBC millwrights, you can rely on our programs. There’s no need to create your own training program, vet the qualifications of tech school programs or wait for other training programs to produce graduates. You won’t need to spend resources for out-of-state or out-of-region workers, or fund a menu of perks and incentives to keep existing employees. And you will never wonder whether your crew will be productive and safe.

The UBC Millwright Commitment

On every worksite, every day, UBC millwrights and contractors bring:

Constant attention to safety is ingrained in our membership, from our leadership to our apprentices. Safety is designed into every UBC training program and we work with our partners to proactively ensure safety and resolve individual safety issues as they occur.

We come to work every day with a positive attitude, a professional appearance, and a determination to finish the job correctly on time, the first time.

Our thousands of UBC millwrights enable our contractors to be fully staffed at all times, which allows for quick response to emergencies and other challenges.

Meeting the schedule is key, and our disciplined, reliable crews know that fast, accurate installations are essential.

We keep projects on time and on budget using strategies fine-tuned to customer needs. We compress schedules, adjust staffing numbers and modify work hours, work days, and work weeks to get the job done.

We finish projects according to the customer’s satisfaction — and we follow through with training, maintenance and customer service. One call puts the best-trained maintenance crews at the worksite to get the system up and running as fast as possible.

Training Spotlight: Compressors

At the Gulf Coast Millwright Training Center in Houston, a section of the 53,000 square feet of training space houses two reciprocating compressors. The 40-hour compressor training class covers every level of compressors: Basic knowledge of compressors and how they work, disassembly and problem diagnosis, and reassembly to exact specifications.

At the International Training Center in Las Vegas, our Train the Trainer program prepares instructors to teach the compressors curriculum back in local jurisdictions where needed. This guarantees the same curriculum and practices are consistent across the country.

UBC Certified Rigger and Signaler Program Accredited

Our Certified Rigger and Signaler Program is now accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agency. The certification exceeds all requirements for riggers and signalers in the USA and Canada.
